About Us
"HOLLYWOOD RON" HIGGINS
Savannah Movie Tours, Inc., was founded by Savannah native, Ron Higgins, who came up with the movie tour idea after working on films shot in Los Angeles and Savannah over the years, and then found himself giving tourist directions to the "Forrest Gump" bench location whenever he came back home to Savannah. "We have a rich Hollywood history here in the city, which started back in 1915 with the silent film "Under Southern Skies," and since then 85 films have been shot here, with those films winning 10 Academy Awards. Those films also left us with more than 420 movie locations."
"The purpose for creating the movie tour was to simply allow people to get closer to the characters they connected with up on the big screen. Movies have a special way of inspiring us at the right moment in life, and that's what makes cinema so magical."
Since the inception of the company in 2003, Mr. Higgins has also created the Scary Ghost Tour, Foody Tour, Savannah Shopping Tour, a "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" Tour, and VIP versions of all the tours.
Mr. Higgins has been awarded "Entrepreneur of the Year 2006: Most Unique Business" from the City of Savannah's Entrepreneur Center, "Tourism Entrepreneur of the Year 2007" from Cumulus Broadcasting, and "Entrepreneur of the Year 2008" from the Savannah Chamber of Commerce.
Savannah Movie Tours and Ron Higgins has been featured in numerous magazines and news papers, including The Hollywood Reporter, The Dallas Morning News, The Miami Herald, The Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Savannah Morning News, Creative Loafing, Diversions, Washington Flyer, Connect Savannah, US Airlines Magazine, the TV show "Scariest Places on Earth," and many more.
